Fact #52344

When:

Short story:

The Beatles' new single, Help!, hits No1 in the UK, where it will remain for three weeks.

Full article:

George Martin (producer, The Beatles] : John came up with this quickly for the second Beatles' film. It became the eighth No1 and features a nice counterpoint between John and Paul where one sings a line and the other sings on top - the beginning of their operatic things, like Eleanor Rigby.

John Lennon : I meant it - it's real. The lyric is as good now as it was then. It is no different, and it makes me feel secure to know that I was that aware of myself then. It was just me singing 'Help!' and I meant it.

I don't like the recording that much. We did it too fast, trying to be commercial.
