Fact #51699

When:

Short story:

The Everly Brothers begin an eighteen date British tour, Star Scene '65, supported by Liverpool singers Cilla Black and Billy J. Kramer And The Dakotas, at the Granada, Bedford, England, UK, Europe.

Full article:

Tony Bramwell (tour manager) : Neither of them spoke to each other the whole tour, apart from on stage. One would travel by coach, one would travel by car; swapping each day. It was The Everly Brothers, Cilla Black , Billy J. Kramer, Paddy Klaus And Gibson and the Lionel Blair Dancers. The Crickets were the backing band for the Everlys, with Jim Gordon on drums and Sonny Curtis on guitar. I used to spend all my time with Sonny Curtis and whichever Everly Brother was being sociable that day.

Phil Everly : We were just a little worried on our arrival - partly because our last disc hadn't made it into the charts and also because we'd heard that there had been a recession in the British pop business.

As things turned out, we had a great tour. Cilla knocked us out every time. She's possibly the best girl performer in the world today. And what a character.

We enjoyed Billy J's work tremendously, and the rest of the show, well, it all blended together so effectively.
