Claude Nobs, founder of The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, dies aged 76 in Lausanne, Switzerland, Europe. Nobs had suffered an accident while nordic skiing in Switzerland and fell into a coma from which he did not recover. (Nobs is immortalised by a mention in the lyric of the Deep Purple song Smoke On The Water)
