Bob Dylan : They (The Byrds, The Turtles, Cher etc) made some of my songs top-10 hits. But I wasn’t a pop songwriter. I never even wanted to be that. But it was good that it happened. Their versions of songs were like commercials. I didn’t really mind that. Because fifty years later my songs would be used for commercials. So that was good, too. I was glad it happened

Joe Brown (UK pop star) : When I first heard Dylan I couldn't really understand what the fuss was about. It wasn't until other people started recording his songs that I got it, that was the turning point because other people seemed to be able to do his songs better than he did them himself.

He was notoriously careless about recording. George Harrison told me that when they were doing the Travelin' Wilburys album they had problems because Dylan simply wouldn't record his parts more than once or twice.

I only ever met him once, which was at George's house. I popped round to borrow some ukulele strings and there was Bob sitting at the breakfast table with his toast. I said hello and he grunted at me. That was it, my encounter with Bob Dylan.
