Fact #38697

When:

Short story:

Wayward Wind by Frank Ifield enters the UK singles chart where it will peak at No1.

Full article:

Frank Ifield : I ended up in a race for the No1 slot with The Beatles. Wayward Wind was an old Gogie Grant tune. I'd seen her do it in Sydney Stadium when I lived in Australia, but I felt it didn't have quite the right arrangement. We did it with the guitar and harmonica playing the phrase. When it got to No1, I was told it was the first time anybody had done that in the UK - three No1 singles in a row. That was strange, because I hadn't really been thinking about records when I came to England. I was more interested in singing in the theatres, so the real big deal for me was being able to sing at The Palladium in London, and places like that.
