Chas Chandler (bassist, The Animals] : When I got to the concert, I could hardly stand up. I was blitzed. They had the curtains closed, so they could open them with the first bar of the music. When I opened my eyes, there was a blinding blast. Everyone in the audience had a camera. I fell back from the microphone, tripped over my amplifier and threw up over the drums. The audience were all right - they thought it was part of the act.
Japan was the most foreign place I'd ever been to, but they really worked you. Two shows a day, three television spots. Even then you could see the technological revolution happening there. The super-efficiency of the TV studios...
