Tom McGuinness (bassist, Manfred Mann] : We had been doing Do Wah Diddy Diddy in our stage act but it hadn't been going down too well when we showed it to John (John Burgess, EMI A + R man). He spotted it as a hit which we doubted, given the audience response. John was right and the song went on to be a number one hit worldwide.
