Fact #32474

When:

Short story:

UK pop group Davie Jones And The Kingbees release their first single, Liza Jane. One day their singer will metamorphose into David Bowie. Although the song is credited to manager Leslie Conn, it is actually written by Bowie and his friend/guitarist George Underwood.

Full article:

George Underwood (co-writer) : It took around fifteen minutes. We'd been listening to a Huey 'Piano' Smith song called Little Liza Jane which had an influence.

Leslie Conn (manager) : There was no way I would take credit for something I wasn't responsible for.

George Underwood : I wasn't sure about it, even at the time. It felt as if we were a cog in a machine.
