Full article:

Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown. I was born in Vinton, Louisiana, USA. That's right on the border of Texas. Right across the river is Orange, Texas, and that's where I was raised.

My dad played music at house parties for himself and for relaxation over the weekend and that's how I developed my skill in music, by playing along with him. My mom used to knock the furniture out of the living room, we always kept a big house, and kick all the furniture, move it back and that left room for everybody to dance. My dad played accordion, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and he sung French, he sung country and he sung bluegrass. My dad would sing real Cajun.

Actually Zydeco was before Cajun. But the black man's version wasn't recognised until the white used some of the Zydeco to come up with that version of Cajun. But they are different music, you don't get Cajun and Zydeco mixed up because it depends on the instrument you're using; Cajun music is used with the fiddle, accordion, triangle and guitars, Zydeco is used with accordion, drums, bass and washboard. Now the Cajun music is a cross between French and Country, the Zydeco is a cross between Blues and French. Then the Texas music is different again, 'cause you have a lot of the Country and Big Band music, and over in New Orleans the music is based on the Caribbean, or Caribbean and Spanish, really. See, I'm a part of Louisiana, so I got this heritage and the Texas heritage, plus the world heritage.
