A new piece of legislation, The Live Music Act, comes into effect in the UK allowing amplified music performances to be staged with without local authority permission or licencing if the audience totals less than 200. It also allows unamplified performances to be staged under the same conditions but with no limit on the size of the audience. It is hoped that the new legislation will result in an increasing number of live music performances at small venues in the UK.
