It's very hard to not get sucked in to Gaslight Anthem's powerful Springsteen-esque yet indie-ish rock. This is what Brooocie might have sounded like if he'd idolised The Velvet Underground and The Stooges rather than Phil Spector and Bob Dylan. Lead vocalist Brian Fallon certainly sounds like Springsteen, but there's an edge of punk to his delivery, and a melodic richness to his tunes that Springsteen rarely achieves. The melodramatic guitar riff of Keepsake may be a little too close to Ohio by CSN+Y for comfort but when they assert their own identity on cuts like Here Comes My Man or Too Much Blood they're hard to beat for spine-tingling rock'n'roll thrills.
