Ah, nectar of the gods! This is the stuff that makes wading through fifty perfectly played, immaculately produced slabs of nothingness feel like it might all be worthwhile. Jil is a 24 year old Parisian who writes songs roughly in the folk bag but illuminates them with bright primary splashes of gipsy music, klezmer strains, surf rock guitars and much more. The languid I May Be Late is the finest song The Velvet Underground never quite got round to recording and The Wanderer is everything contemporary folk-psych really should be but so rarely is. Anyone who digs Camper Van Beethoven, Beruit or Gogol Bordello will find themselves instantly in tune with this.
