DJ Fontana (Presley's drummer) : Viva Las Vegas was fun to record. There were about three or four drummers on that one. That was an uptempo thing and that just moved right along. We had myself and Buddy (Harman) and I think we had Hal Blaine, and another guy playing bongos and congas, all kind of things going on. He knew the difference between a bad song and a good song, and that was a good one.

I think Elvis would have been happier if he played more shows. He got stuck and had to do those movies. Some of them he liked and, of course, some of them he didn't like because of the music, but he always did it.

He would say, 'These tunes are not that great but let's do the best we can. Let's don't fluff through 'em, let's do 'em right.' He wanted to do it right.

Elvis did say to us, 'These tunes are really bad,' but he had a feeling that this is what they needed in the movies.
