Annette Carson (audience) : With the brass in the band (Blue Flames) it was a terrific sonic assault, not just a booming rhythm section. They seemed much more professional than the R'n'B combos I was used to and swung like crazy. I was completely blown away and stood rooted to the spot throughout their set – although the dance floor behind me was was crowded with dancers doing ultra-cool moves.
The crowd were in fact a little intimidating – mature, sophisticated and impressively well-dressed for a night out dancing.
