Tony Bramwell (head of promotions, Apple Records) : Derek Lawrence, a friend of mine who managed Deep Purple brought them to me. I was in the offices of Feldman's Publishing in Dean Street, and Derek played me a reggae version of Give Peace A Chance that had been done by this guy called Tony Wilson. I really loved it but they'd changed some of the lyrics and that was usually a no-no at Apple, so I thought it would get turned down, but John absolutely loved it and he gave it the go ahead.

They didn't have a name until they came round to the office one day and Mavis Smith in the Press Office just took one look at them and for some reason she said, 'It's the Hot Chocolate band.' And so it was.
