Fact #176553

When:

Short story:

Wishbone Ash play at Palalido, Milan, Italy, Europe, supported by Headboys.

Full article:

Carl Leighton-Pope (promoter and agent) : Italy was really wild then. I remember doing a show in Milan with Wishbone Ash and we had half the house sold, but the other half was in the car park smashing up cars because they wanted you to open up the venue doors and let them in for nothing. In the end the local promoters, Franco Mamone and Claudio Trotta, came over and said, 'Look, we gotta let them in. They’re doing so much damage out there." Se we opened the doors and they literally ran all over us. It was mayhem.

Franco was a colourful character. His brother Willy was a good-looking kid, very interesting guy, carried a gun.

In those days, you would be playing gigs in Germany, and there was always somewhere you could play in Switzerland but then the next obvious place was the South of France but there were no gigs there, so you turned left and went to Milan. Then you would drive east, out past Venice, and on into what was then called Yugoslavia, play a show in Lublyana, and those people went crazy because they hardly ever got any bands over there.
