Claudio Trotta (promoter, Barley Arts) : In 1994, Seat invested in me and gave me enough money to sponsor an event and so, I created Sonoria. The concept was a melting pot of a variety of music cultures and, alongside the top bands and singers, I invited jugglers, waders and other street artists. I looked after the food choices as well and when I presented my ideas to the press I was instantly pictured like a hero.

But scarce pre-sales meant there was the possibility that things would not go as predicted and I found myself explaining the difference between a Festival and the Festivalbar or the Festival di Sanremo.

It did not go well, we attracted just over six thousand people in three days in a space that could hold up to 30 thousand per day.

I surely made estimation errors and because of Sonoria I was risking bankruptcy, but I still believed that the idea was right and I carried on.

The second edition was an amazing success, and in 1996 with 3 stages and artists including the Orbital, Rage Against The Machine, Sepultura, Iggy Pop, Moby, Nick Cave I did well enough, but after three years, I decided not to continue and explained my reasons with a public letter.
