Full article:

Mike Dewdney (agent, ITB) : The real reason I’m an agent today is that when I went to Sheffield Poly, a second year lad came and sat with all us new boys in the hall of residence. I asked him, ’What’s the best clubs to join?’ and his words of wisdom were 'Join the Ents Committee, because you’ll get into everything free." I thought, 'Ooooh!' because I loved music. So I joined and that was it. From then on I just got more involved in the running of it and became the Ents Officer and that was me on my way.

When I started at Sheffield, I had no idea what I wanted to be. I actually wanted to go into forensic science.

It was the heyday of when bands were breaking by playing that circuit, every college had an Ents Officer, and you had pretty much carte blanche on who you booked. I remember booking Erasure, Deacon Blue, Amazulu, Aswad.

Simon Moran who now runs SJM did one of his first-ever shows with me when I was at Sheffield. He was a student at Sheffield Uni and he started promoting concerts and he did loads … I think Cabaret Voltaire was the first one we did together. (28 Feb 1986) I remember counting the money out, doing the deal with him on the night in cash. He took his settlement away in a Tesco’s plastic carrier bag. He’s now one of best promoters out there.
