Trad Tavern, a new BBC Light Programme radio show cashing in on the UK's Trad Jazz craze, begins. Acker Bilk will become one of its most featured artists. During this first edition, young presenter Alan Freeman introduces a short segment called 'Pick Of The Pops', which will become so popular that it will be given its own Sunday teatime spot in 1962.
