Fact #174386

When:

Short story:

The Move play their first-ever gig at The Belfry, Wishaw, West Midlands, England, UK, Europe. On the same day, they also play at The Cedar Club (aka Club Cedar) in Birmingham.

Full article:

Bev Bevan (drummer, The Move) : The Cedar Club was very important in the development of The Move. It was there that Ace Kefford and Trevor Burton talked to a very young David Jones (later to become David Bowie) about trying to make the big time. His advice was to put together the best musicians in Birmingham, rehearse like crazy and get London managers, which was exactly what we did. Cedar Club manager Eddie Fewtrell gave us access to use the club in the daytime as a rehearsal room - leaving us the keys. The smell of booze and cigarettes and a little dope from the night before - I can still remember the beer and sometimes blood-stained carpets too. The Move's debut gig was a double-header - The Belfry and Club Cedar in January 1966.
