Harold Pendleton (organiser) : At the time, the largest halls were London's Royal Festival Hall (capacity 3000) and Royal Albert Hall (5,300) so when we started getting 10,000 people, it was a very exciting time.

Governments might be used to large gatherings now but, back then, the only reason that people could see for a crowd of 10,000 getting together was to go to war.
