Fact #170288
When:
Short story:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience play at The Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas, USA.
Full article:
Abe Jacob (road crew) : Every time we set up (in Texas), the fire department, police department and mayor's office were all there, saying,'You can't do this, we don't allow that kind of stuff in our town.' They all thought Hendrix was going to burn the building down.
Mitch Mitchell (drummer, Jimi Hendrix Experience) : We didn't encounter any problems (with racism) in Europe that I can remember but we did when we toured the South of the States. It was not everywhere or everybody by any means but it still hit you like a punch in the stomach and it was horrible. I should add that they didn't like us (Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding) any better – long-haired Englishmen in funny clothes – so we were all considered undesirables and there were a few hairy situations.
