Mike Rutherford (Genesis) : He stood out for me as a great player, in a way that I haven't seen since Hendrix, in that he could be wild one minute, melodic the next. All the musicians knew about Alan, but I think the saddest thing about his death is that the public were just beginning to recognise him. I don't think I'm alone in saying that he was one of the most talented guitarists of the day.
