Arthur Brown : We didn't have much to do with the choosing of it. In fact, we did another song at that time called Give Him A Flower which was the one all the underground audiences joined in on. Lambert, Stamp and Townshend decided between them they wanted something a little harder. They even wanted me to leave the band so I could be a solo artist. They were trying to choose something that would project an image into the future, which is why Fire was chosen, because it had quite a good range of vocals.
