Full article:
Mike Finnigan (organist) : Tom Wilson had discovered and produced my little R'n'B band. He introduced us to Hendrix, and Jimi asked me, Larry Faucette (congas) and Freddie Smith (saxophone) to jam on this tune he had in mind. In the early 1960s, Jimmy Smith had made these great, obscure organ quintet albums, which featured organ, congas, guitar, tenor saxophone and drums. Before we started the session, Hendrix reminded me of this and joked 'We're going to do a slow shuffle in D. You be like Jimmy Smith and I'll be Kenny Burrell.' Having heard his first two albums, I thought he'd be using stacks of amplifiers and electronic toys to get his sound (but) he was using this small blond thirty watt Fender Showman amplifier. We couldn't believe it.
Buddy Miles (drums) : There was no bass. Mike Finnegan was, as we know it, shamming.
Mike Finnigan : A couple of times I did some walking bass lines and he said, 'No, don't be walking. Just keep pumping.' I didn't know it was going to be on the album. Hell, I never got paid for the session.
