Fact #166174

When:

Short story:

Ringo Starr And His All Starr Band play at The Holland Blues Festival, Grolloo, Netherlands, Europe. Also on the Festival bill are Jeff Beck and Walter Trout.

Full article:

Bertus De Blaauw (promoter, Mojo Concerts) : Ringo is very special to the Dutch audience because when The Beatles visited Holland in the 60s, Ringo was sick so they had a substitute drummer, Jimmy Nicol from The Spotniks. So this was the first chance for a lot of Dutch people to finally get to see Ringo Starr.

Our date was at The Holland Blues Festival which Ringo was headlining in Grolloo on Friday June 8, along with people like Jeff Beck and Walter Trout, so it was an amazing day. It was sold out, 50,000 people a day. the weather was great, like Southern Europe weather.

Ringo went down fantastically with the crowd. Aside from Ringo, of course, the band consists of star names, so the show becomes a one and a half hour long celebration of all their songs and songwriting. Ringo comes across like a man who intends to enjoy every moment of his life. For me personally, booking Ringo Starr is the highlight of my career. It’s very special. A guy who played in The Beatles? That’s really something. You could sense the electricity in the big tent, for people to see Ringo sing Yellow Submarine or With A Little Help From My Friends, but he doesn’t play the superstar, just comes across as one of the members of the band.
