Fact #165876
When:
Short story:
Madonna, supported by Level 42, plays at Soldier's Field, Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is around this time that Boon Gould of Level 42 realises he has had enough and decides to leave the group.
Full article:
Boon Gould (guitarist, Level 42) : I realised it was over for me when I woke up in the hotel in Chicago at the end of July 1987. We were supporting Madonna, and I wasn’t enjoying myself. We’d had five years going up, then two years at the top and the bigger it got, the worse it was. I had a drink problem as well.
We were playing every third night on that tour, so there was a lot of hanging around. The only fun we had was when we went off and did a few gigs on our own at the end of the tour.
Essentially, I was just tired. I was a bit messed up, couldn’t deal with the touring side. My brother Phil and I were not enjoying it.
So that’s really when I left the band, but the lawyers kept it quiet until December of that year, to minimise any adverse financial effects on the band.
