Fact #164533

When:

Short story:

New York City club owner Steve Paul advertises The Scene Club with a personal statement in the Village Voice newspaper.

Full article:

Mitch Mitchell (bassist, Jimi Hendrix experience) : We had The Scene Club just around the corner, two blocks away (from Record Plant) where some of the best jam sessions ever took place. You'd find people like Roland Kirk, Gabor Szabo, playing with Albert King, who was out in the road - with a 400 foot lead playing outside in the street. It was a tiny little club in a basement.

Jim Marron : The Scene was like a Paris disco, in that it was cave style. It had three rooms that focussed, like a cross, on the stage.

Noel Redding : When things got a bit silly in the studio, we'd all go down to The Scene Club at three in the morning. It was like our second home, actually.

Steve Paul (owner, Scene Club) : We got together the other night. Traffic played. They were great. You could have come. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fat Frankie, Zappa, Yardbirds, Chas Chandler … and even I managed to come.
