The Beatles' college friend Bill Harry publishes the first edition of a new Liverpool, England, UK, Europe, pop newspaper, Mersey Beat, with a front cover story featuring Gene Vincent.

Bill Harry : I went into NEMS in Whitechapel and asked to see the manager, and it was BrianEpstein. I showed him Mersey Beat and he said, 'Oh, this is interesting. I'll take a dozen copies.' He phoned me that afternoon and said, 'I can't understand this, every one of the dozen went ... in half an hour. So he ordered 144 copies of the next issue, and that was the one where the cover story was about The Beatles recording in Hamburg.
