Fact #164434

When:

Short story:

Twiggy visits Paul McCartney of The Beatles at Apple Records in London, England, UK, Europe, to recommend a new young singer, Mary Hopkin.

Full article:

Alistair Taylor (general manager, Apple Records) : Twiggy ran in one day to my office, shouted, 'Hello, luv', and went up to see Paul. He rang down shortly after to ask if I'd seen Opportunity Knocks the night before, but I hadn't. He said, "Twigs is here and she's seen this wonderful singer on Opportunity Knocks.' So I was given the job of tracking down Mary Hopkin.

Once I'd found her, we brought her and her mum to Dick James studio in London, England, UK, Europe. Paul was there, and she had her acoustic guitar, this beautiful girl with long golden hair, looking like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. She only knew about four songs but, as soon as she opened her mouth, Paul and I looked at each other. He'd made up his mind.
During the second song, she snapped a string on the guitar and then this demure little angel said, 'Oh, bugger!' which completely cracked Paul and me up.

She lived with me and my wife for about five months in a big flat off Montagu Place which was part of my salary.
