Fact #163812

When:

Short story:

Marvin Gaye opens his Heavy Love Affair British tour at The Royal Albert Hall, London, England, UK, Europe.

Full article:

Jeffrey Kruger (tour promoter) : Everybody wanted to be at the gig. Mick Jagger phoned to ask if I could arrange tickets for him, his brother, his girlfriend and Paul McCartney. Many other major artists and celebrities called asking for seats, but there was no place to put them.

I found that Marvin was locked in the bandroom, and I knew this was trouble. We forced the door and found the whole band in a fog of marijuana smoke. Marvin took one look at my face and said to the others, ‘Cool it while the boss is here.’ At which point everyone put out their joints.

That evening I witnessed a great soul artist. I couldn’t imagine him ever being better. The standing ovation after his umpteenth encore began the tour on a high point.
