Chris Difford (Squeeze) : We always had mad battles with the Musicians Union in the early days, as there was a rule you couldn't mime to the actual record, you were supposed to re-record the vocal track and mime to that. What would invariably happen, though, was someone from the record company would take the MU rep out for a few beers, get him pissed, and we'd switch the tapes back to the original recording while he was away. It was just a big inconvenience to everyone, that rule.

One time there was us, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson all in Eden Studios in Acton on the same afternoon re-recording stuff for Top Of The Pops. As a little joke, Elvis decided to sing his own vocal over the master tape of Joe's song Is She Really Going Out With Him?, to see if we could catch the BBC out.
