Fact #162844

When:

Short story:

Adam Horovitz of The Beastie Boys is arrested at The Portobello Hotel in London, England, UK, Europe, for 'causing grievous bodily harm' to a fan at the previous night's show in Liverpool.

Full article:

Paul Boswell (agent, Beastie Boys) : I was sitting in the Limelight Club in London when I heard that there'd been a riot in Liverpool. When I got home late that night, I got a phone call telling me to get a lawyer down to Notting Hill Gate police station first thing in the morning, because they'd arrested Adam Horovitz. I remember thinking the tour was finally over.

Mike D (Beastie Boys) : The Police turned up at the Portobello Hotel in London where we were staying, to arrest Horovitz on a charge of having assaulted a girl at the Liverpool gig. She claimed she'd been hit by one of the cans he'd batted into the audience. They carted him off and it was quickly decided that (Beastie Boy) Yauch and I would have to get out of the country before they came after us too. We had four or five days to kill before we flew to Japan for dates. My girlfriend and I went to Italy and had a great trip, actually. We weren't being disloyal to Adam, but there was nothing we could do for him.

John Reid (management representative, Def Jam Records) : We got the lawyers involved and got Adam out pretty easily, but he had to go back to Liverpool to stand trial in November.
