Short story:

Full article:

Dave Wakeling (The Beat) : David Steele came up with the bass line and that was the basis for the music. I came up with the lyrics and they had to do with self-obsession, toying around the delicate edges of neurosis.

I was working on a construction site, had to start real early in the morning, and it was snowing and my clothes would still be wet from the last day at work. I'd be in the shower trying to make one room in the apartment warm. And I didn't want to come out of the bathroom. I was having a shave in there, and talking to the mirror saying, 'We could stay in here all day. The door is locked.'

It just amused me. And that was the start of it. It had to do with self-discovery and self-confession and self-obsession, as well.
