Fact #161979

When:

Short story:

Lazy Sunday by The Small Faces is released as a single on Immediate Records, against the wishes of the group.

Full article:

Ian 'Mac' MacLagan (Small Faces) : When we first cut the record, everyone thought it was a laugh. Steve started singing it in the recording studio and began to laugh at the song. Then we all began laughing at it. It was really quite a straight song to begin with until Steve began chucking in 'inky pinky poos' for a giggle. When we finished it, we all thought it was very funny, but we had no intention of releasing it.

Ian 'Mac' MacLagan (Small Faces) : After Lazy Sunday... we hadn't planned on that being a single, but (Immediate Records owner) Andrew Oldham whipped it out. And it was a hit, and they were right and all that, but it was just a side of us, and it kind of forced Steve's hand.

That's why he wanted to form Humble Pie, to be more heavy and get away from that. He didn't want to be laughed at. But he was the biggest joker. Lazy Sunday was part of his character. He was as much vaudeville as he was Hank Williams or Muddy Waters or Charles Mingus or Charlie Drake. I didn't even play on Lazy Sunday. I think it's my dog barking in the background, so I get royalties.
