Chris Blackwell (owner, Island Records) : I didn't instigate the signing of U2. Rob Partridge, head of publicity, gets credit for that. I went to see them in London in July 1980, and I loved them. I loved the band's name - names are important to me. They had already found Steve Lillywhite as their producer. I wasn't really involved in their career except to the extent that I gave an edict to give them maximum support. (Mix magazine – December 1999)
