When:
Short story:
The Bee Gees make their American tv debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, in New York City, USA, performing To Love Somebody and Words.
Full article:
Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) : Before the show, Maurice got locked in the toilet of the St Regis Hotel. We had to do Words, and we only just got him out in time. I think Ed had some kind of dementia, because he introduced us as "And now, a great group from England – Cary Grant.'
Barry Gibb (Bee Gees) : We didn't meet him before the show. We only met him when he introduced us, and he really didn't seem to know who we were. He introduced us as friends of Cary Grant, and we'd never met Cary Grant in our lives. Sullivan would frequently say things that made no sense whatsoever. He made these very strange statements, almost as if there was something wrong with him.

Maurice Gibb (Bee Gees) : He was an enigma without a stigma. We did the rehearsal, and didn't see him until we shook his hand and said, 'Thank you very much.' And that was it. He hated pop music. He didn't even like The Beatles.
