Johnny Black (audience) : This was one of the first live concerts I ever went to. The first thing that sticks in my mind from the show is Paul Simon breaking a string in mid-song and then, with the help of a roadie, re-stringing and re-tuning the guitar without actually stopping the song. The other highlight of the evening was Art Garfunkel's gorgeous rendition of for Emily, Wherever I May Find Her, for which he stood alone in a spotlight, while his angelic voice echoed around the high ceiling of the Usher Hall.

There was also no sign of security around them. I hung around outside with a couple of friends, Stuart Cruickshank and Brian Hogg, and was able to chat with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel as they waited for their car to take them back to their hotel. I remember Paul as the friendlier of the two, although neither was what you'd call chummy. They complained of being very tired as a result of an extremely hectic schedule, and couldn't believe how bad British roads seemed to be.
