Fact #157655

When:

Short story:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience plays two shows at The Scene Club, Antlers Hotel, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, supported by Soft Machine.

Full article:

Michael Milewski (local musician) : It was a small ballroom done up in beautiful plush reds. The hotel was getting kind of funky, but The Scene was still a beautiful place. It could only hold a few hundred people. I had played there as a house band, The Picture, for about a year.

Neville Chesters (road crew) : Another bad club. Terrible. Had to carry gear through hotel lobby, up in the elevator, through the club's kitchen and then carry it the full length of the club. It took us three hours just to get the gear on stage.

Michael Milewski : I remember seeing Jimi walk up to the amps and just run his finger past all the knobs, and just toss them all up to ten… The way he moved. I had never seen anyone move like that with the guitar before… He reminded me of a lava lamp moving. He didn't move, he slinked around the stage. It was a slow poetry motion. Hendrix was totally in touch with his guitar, the band and his singing at The Scene.
