Fact #156336
When:
Short story:
The Hacienda Club, Manchester, England, UK, Europe, holds its first Nude night, with Mike Pickering as DJ. The Nude Nights will focus on hardcore American dance music.
Full article:
Tony Wilson (co-owner, the Hacienda) : This was where Mike Pickering, who had been our booker from the start, became more of a full-time DJ, and begins to play this obscure black music coming out of Chicago and Detroit which, ironically, had been influenced by New Order and Depeche Mode.
Stephen Morris (co-owner and member of New Order) : Pickering contributed a lot more in terms of the success of the club than we have. From about ‘84 onwards, dance music has just grown and grown.
Tony Wilson : Something that gets forgotten is that, to boost the Nude Nights, we did a deal where we could sell Stella at a quid a pint, and that started to bring in the scallies, and so they got into this music, which leads to The Happy Mondays mixing house with rock.
