Ian 'Mac' MacLagan (Small Faces) : When we got to New Zealand, we had eight policemen meet us, one for each member of The Who and The Small Faces. It was like I had a new friend. Everywhere I went... the bathroom... he'd come with me. In full uniform. It was stupid. So we did the gigs there, and we went to Wellington.

Steve Marriott (Small Faces) : New Zealand was enjoyable. We got to the airport and Pete Townshend immediately smashed one press guy's camera – throws it. Oh, here we go again! But they kind of understood, because I don't think they're too keen on Australians either.

John 'Wiggy' Wolf (production manager) : Marriott, myself and Moonie (Keith Moon of The Who) caught the clap down there. It was from Australia, but I think it was in New Zealand that it showed up. We were all comparing how bad we were. We all shared a taxi to go along to this clap doctor, paying out a few quid for the shots. I think it was because I was the most obvious, but all the others had been with the one I'd been with, so they had to get a whole load. Our whole life on that tour was dedicated to women, drinking and partying.

Ian 'Mac' MacLagan (Small Faces) : It just got crazy because there was nothing happening. Townshend smashed a guitar on stage and Roger Daltrey broke some microphones, and it was all rented gear, and there was this terrible review in the paper going "Oh, my god, these barbarians!" And all the equipment was paid for, I mean what the hell!
