Fact #154464

When:

Short story:

Nicolette Larson and Steve Forbert play at The Bottom Line, New York City, USA.

Full article:

Stephen Holden (reviewer, Rolling Stone) : A stylist in the Linda Ronstadt - Emmylou Harris groove, Larson has a pretty voice but lacks Ronstadt’s power and Harris’s spirituality. In addition, her choice of material diffuses a musical personality that badly needs focusing. A live version of Sam Cooke’s You Send me was as bland as the album cut; R'n'B pop is clearly not Larson’s forte.

Singer/songwriter Steve Forbert, who opened with an unusually long set, stole the evening to the delight of his claque. Fronting a competent four-piece band, the twenty-four year old Mississippian performed his own material with a boyish exuberance and canny humour that stopped just short of cutesiness.
