Jerry Leiber : After a while, we got to thinking, why should we settle for 2 cents when we could have our own record company and get 21 cents?

Lester Sill (publisher/producer) : There was something special about both of them. In Jerry's case, he lived it. He would not just sit around and talk about it, he would go to clubs constantly – 54th And Broadway, all through Watts. He was phenomenal. He just had an incredible feel for those things. He would sit up and write all night and call Mike up at all hours.

Jerry Leiber : We signed and recorded a number of blues acts like Alvin Robinson and John Hammond Jr, and a couple of acts from New Orleans, one of which was The Dixie Cups.
