Ringo Starr : Sometimes the boys would like to have a little joke. The original lines to 'With a Little Help From My Friends,' for instance, were, 'What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you throw tomatoes at me?' And I said, 'I'm not singing this.' Kids used to like to throw things at us in those days. I just wouldn't sing it. So they changed the second line to, 'Would you stand up and walk out on me?,' which was safer.'

Pepper - With A Little Help From My Friends and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - there were some pretty good bass lines. Like Motown. Like Brian Wilson's lines in The Beach Boys. So, it was okay by the time I came to do that.
