Fact #147770

When:

Short story:

Controversial right wing politician Enoch Powell delivers his infamous 'Rivers Of Blood' speech to a Conservative Association meeting in Birmingham, England, UK, Europe. In due course, several rock stars, including Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton will speak out in support of Powell's policies which, essentially, advocate sending back immigrants to their homelands. The speech also inspired an early version of the song Get Back by The Beatles, plus their unreleased Commonwealth Song in which McCartney sings, "Dirty Enoch Powell said to the immigrants, immigrants you better get back to your commonwealth homes." Millie Small will also record Enoch Power in 1970, condemning Powell's racist stance.
