Joe Boyd (record producer) : I got them (Pink Floyd] a deal with Polydor Records while they were performing as resident band at the UFO Club John Hopkins and I had just started. Before the contract was signed, however, their new agents offered to finance a single with an eye to selling it to EMI – then Britain's most prestigious label – squeezing my new production company, Witchseason, out of the deal.

Pete Townshend : I immediately fell in love with them. Syd walked onstage – off his head on acid – played a single chord and made it last about an hour. When he did start to play again he was truly inspiring, anarchic and experimental.
