Fact #141385

When:

Short story:

U2 begin a run of dates at The O2, London, England, UK.

Full article:

Rebecca Kane Burton (general manager, O2) : U2 had a new massive, mind-blowing stage set-up and they wanted to see it in place before playing at The O2. It was more suited to stadiums, so they wanted to see how it would work in an arena. So in October 2014 they hired the O2 for a night so they could install it and see what it looked like.

Now, I wasn’t invited to be there, so I’d gone off swimming. When I got out of the pool at 9.30 I had about twenty missed calls from their agent, John Giddings. I thought, "Oh, God, what’s gone wrong?"

So I rang him and he says, "Where are you?" I explained that I was swimming, and he says, "No, no, no, you must come and meet the band with me." So I made myself look presentable, rushed over there looking a bit wet and bedraggled, and as the band came in he introduced me to every single one of them individually, and told them that they were only able to do this dress rehearsal because of my kindness. He’s incredibly generous in that way.
