Fact #141364

When:

Short story:

The Ramones play at Jarlateatern, Stockholm, Sweden, Europe.

Full article:

Thomas Johannesson (promoter, Live Nation, Sweden) : I did lots of Iggy Pop and Ramones shows with John Giddings as the agent. The Ramones in my mind are one of the top 10 most important bands in the world.

The first show we did with The Ramones was in a tiny club in Stockholm, about 900 capacity and it was sold out, but I had the feeling that some of the kids who were going to come along would not be 100% clean. There were kids who really wanted to beat up The Ramones. So I did a thorough strip search at the door, which was not something you did in those days, and we got two big waste bins full of guns and knives and knuckle-dusters.

I think the fee for that show was $20,000 and they’d been given the first half in advance, and you had to pay the second $10,000 directly to Johnny Ramone. I gave him the money, he counted it, looked up at me and asked, "Is there any bonus?" I said, "No." And it made him really miserable that there was no extra money. I loved those guys.
