Fact #139998

When:

Short story:

Aspiring heavy metal band Iron Maiden plays a gig at The Ruskin Arms, East Ham, London, England, UK.

Full article:

Rod Smallwood (manager, Iron Maiden) : I used to play rugby at Rosslyn Park and one of my team mates there, Andy Waller, worked with a guy called Steve Harris, a draughtsman and bass player, who asked Andy to give me a four track demo tape of his band, Iron Maiden. I played this, loved it and promptly went on a rugby tour of California for six weeks! This was April 1979. When I got back I called Steve, saw them live and that was it. The start of  many years of unimaginably exciting and fulfilling times with Maiden and never a dull moment. It's a great pleasure working with a band who have the balls and integrity to do things differently and adventurously and never compromise. They write pretty decent songs too!!
