Fact #133236

When:

Short story:

Cliff Richard And The Shadows open for the Christmas season in the pantomime Aladdin, at The London Palladium, London, England, UK.

Full article:

Brian Bennett (drummer, The Shadows] : Those pantomimes at The Palladium would go on for three or four months. They were lavish musicals with a matinee every day. So you'd start at 2 o'clock, go home at midnight, then come back and do it again the next day. But that was all part of it in those days. You did a summer season, a tour, a movie, a couple of albums and a pantomime. There were a lot of places to play because a lot of the theatres were cinemas. They'd roll up the silver screen and you'd have a 4000-seater. That stopped when they started dividing the cinemas into three screens. Some of them would only hold 100 people and there were no facilities for a stage.
